It’s International Women’s Day on the 8th of March and at Home Grown, we would love to take this time to shine the spotlight on 3 female Home Grown members that are leaders in their respective fields and communities.

Emma Sinclair MBE

Co-Founder of Enterprise Alumni, UNICEF Advisor

Emma became the youngest person, at 29, in the UK to take a company public in 2005. In 2008, Sinclair launched her Target Parking. The business went on to manage 450 sites across the UK, boasting such clients as DTZ, Urban Splash, Wolverhampton and the Forestry Commission of Scotland.

In 2016, she was awarded an MBE in the Queen’s 90th Birthday Honours for services to entrepreneurship. Previously, Sinclair has touched on how entrepreneurship provides an equalising platform for regions where gender inequality is widespread and how female entrepreneurs can be a positive role model for both genders.

Alison Cooper

Co-Founder and CEO of Alicia J Diamonds

Alison’s entrepreneurial flame has been burning bright since the age of 10 selling home grown tomato plants for a £20 profit. She’s never looked back since, Alison has had multiple business ventures, most notably, En Route, a global food business for the airline industry, that she sold to Dnata, part of the Emirates group. Most recently, Alison started her own bespoke diamond and gemstone jewellery service, Alicia J Diamonds.

In the midst of setting up her new business, the pandemic hit. Alison isn’t a stranger to major panics; While running En Route, there were major setbacks in the airline industry e.g. 9-11, Icelandic volcanic ash cloud, 2008 financial market crash etc. All these challenges were faced head on and only strengthened her resolve. She saw a gap in the diamond market and she tapped on her contact abroad to create her own line of jewellery line.

Alison also spends time helping young businesswomen who need an extra leg-up, via the Women Supporting Women initiative at The Princes Trust. It’s safe to say, she can spot a diamond in the rough.
