Our members often beg the question, how can I be productive when working from home?

While working from home a couple of days a month might boost productivity, working alone for extended periods of time can lead to negative effects both on the overall health and productivity of the worker.

At Home Grown, our motto is to ‘provide entrepreneurial pioneers with unique resources to unlock the true value of their business potential’ this includes;

  • Intimate dinners
  • Business seminars
  • Breakfast briefings
  • Social drinks designed for connectivity and growth

And unusual, but productivity driven work spaces which consist of;

The Montagu Room & Loungewith space for up to 100pax, The space is fully equipped with the latest audio and visual technology. Due to the nature of being a business club we also provide a complimentary stage, lectern and flip charts.

The Portman Lounge This space lends well to drinks receptions and dinners or can be used for more formal  meetings with break out space

The Seymour Room – With a maximum of 10 guests seated. This beautiful private dining room is located on the ground floor and situated discreetly at the far end of the Club.

The Secret Salon – An enclave of comfort and privacy a truly fabulous, secluded space.

The Study Cafe – With ample power outlets and provides a comfortable space to work  on your laptop and phone throughout the day, there are also private meeting rooms available which attract a room hire fee.

And now… The Pod!

We asked Walter, founder of Make.Work.Space a few questions…

Tell us about the pod, when did you come up with the idea?

“The pod was first thought of in November 2020. During the first lockdown, as my wife would say is it’s the thing that destroyed the front room of the house because I built a full-scale card model.”

What do you see members using it for?

“As we walked to the club just half an hour ago, there were members on telephone calls and Zoom meetings and talking next to someone on another call can be a bit disturbing, I know that we all try to get used to it we want to think that it doesn’t affect us, but it does.

I think members would really benefit from the use of The Pod to step away to step out of the floor to step out of the noise to focus to have those long-distance calls where you need a bit of privacy, to speak about the things that you may not want other people to overhear, to feel more confident, more focused.”

As a member of Home Grown yourself, what do you feel you bring to the homegrown community?

Well, I bring The Pod! But aside from that, I can bring in insight perhaps from the United States. I can bring some insights as a new start-up and I’m happy to share. I’m happy to talk about technology. I’m happy to share the stories that we’ve heard with people using The Pod. I’m happy to connect with people that want to learn more about

What do hope to gain from us?

I’m looking to making friends. I’m looking forward to hearing feedback from you, valuable feedback. I’m also wanting to connect with not only investors but other entrepreneurs that can inform our journey and come along and train with us.

We’re all about businesses unusual here, so what makes you unusual?

I think I have a very diverse and varied background. And no matter what project I tackle for taking math, I get everything. I think that this idea [of The Pod] itself is a bit revolutionary.

I’m trying to make something that is a physical representation, where people can actually engage with and you know, feel comfortable and feel themselves and be the best that they can be.

Where do you see the business in five years, are we going to be seeing these parts, all over London and car parks, and park?

You’ll see them in the United States and across Europe as well. So whether you’re travelling from London to France or from France to Hong Kong or Hong Kong to New York, I want to be able to have you with your portable membership, and at JFK airport and if you have a call back with London that you can pop into one of these pods and have that call.

About The Pod

The thoughtfully ergonomic space includes a large LCD screen built-in behind the desk that levers down over the seat from its home in the wall.

The screen can prompt work breaks, display background imagery of calming spaces, be used as a second monitor, or as a fully tunable light source to better enhance the working environment during darker times of the year.

Antimicrobial acoustic panels line the faceted walls of the well-ventilated space, while the app also controls the temperature and lighting.

There’s a slender window that strips up the sides and over the top providing a view to the surrounding environment while letting in an ample stream of light.

The skeleton of the pod is made up of low-carbon mild steel tubing, manually welded by local trade experts in London.

Wall panels are manufactured using FSC certified wood, and are lined with an acoustic antimicrobial material.

The pod’s finishes are all customizable from a range of water-based options for the exterior and sustainably manufactured fabrics for the interiors.

There are personal storage compartments under the seat for laptops or shopping bags, and an extra seat that unfolds down from the wall for guests to use.

Other thoughtful touches include coat hooks and a handy wall mirror!
